“The only concern or negative there was with USC was, would John play at USC,” Martinez’s father, Steve said. “Stanley came home for a short vacation and he talked to John. Stanley told John he will play at USC. He’s seen John, he’s seen the offensive linemen at USC and he said, ‘You will play at USC. Everyone was telling me I would never play at USC and look at me now. I play all the time and I couldn’t be happier that I chose USC.’
“Stanley said he loves everything abut USC and said they are a big family. Everyone supports each other and even though guys are competing against each other at the same position for playing time, they all get along and help each other out.”
There are other schools Martinez could play early at and even as a true freshman, but Steve Martinez appreciates the plan USC has for his son.
“There are coaches who are begging John to come to their school because they are so desperate for offensive linemen,” said Steve Martinez. “A coach from Auburn said they have no depth at all on the offensive line and said could come right in and play. UCLA is desperate, too. But I like the plan Coach (Pat) Ruel has for John. John will red shirt his first year, fill in where he’s needed his second year and possibly take over at center for (Kristofer) O’Dowd when he leaves.”
Although USC is Martinez’s top school, he plans on taking some unofficial visits this summer and all of his official vsits in the fall. One of his unofficial visits will be to USC for the Rising Stars Camp on June 25-26.
WeAreSC will provide full coverage of the Rising Stars Camp and speak to Martinez again after the camp.
