tOSU cancels game with SC
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP)--Officials at Ohio State have cancelled the September 13 game with Southern California according to a press release by Buckeyes Athletic Director Gene Smith, citing a desire to not risk their chances to ruin a perfect season so early into their fall campaign. Referencing their 2005 early season loss to the University of Texas which sent the Longhorns to the BCS title game instead of the Buckeyes, Smith explained "we think we have the right formula to reach the title game, and an early season loss to the Trojans would defeat our goal to win."
Both programs have been among the tops in college football in recent years. The September 13 game in Los Angeles had been tagged by many publications as the top non-conference game in all of college football this coming season.
Head Coach Jim Tressell added "the Ohio State University has proven its intention to play anyone, any place, any time. However now is not the right time for us to travel to Los Angeles to face the Trojans". At press time no replacement had been scheduled. USC Sports Information Director, Tim Tessalone expressed his disappointment in the turn of events stated "We expected this might occur once Ohio State officials realized USC did not stand for University of South Cleveland. We expect to meet our commitment to travel to Columbus next year, we don't back away from competition. When asked for his thoughts Trojan Coach Pete Carroll would not comment, he just rolled his eyes.
In related news, Ohio State running back and Heisman Trophy candidate Beanie Wells was almost killed today in a tragic horse back riding accident. He fell from the horse and was nearly trampled to death. Luckily, the manager of the Wal-Mart came out and unplugged the horse just
in time.--
