I was reading the spring prospectus that came out today. You can find it on ripsit. Lane Kiffen said, "We have to find out this spring what our players do best and build an offense around it.
Kiffin then throws down the gaunlet, "We need veteran offensive players to step up and show themselves in the spring, because we havea phenomenal offensive recruiting class coming in this fall to try and take the veterans spots." I love it. USC was 44th in rushing O last year, 54th in passing O, 55th in total O, and 64th in scoring O. The Trojans were 54th in passing off % All this with an offense loaded with 4 and 5 star players. USC made lemons out of lemonade on offense in 2009. No more excuses. I don't want to hear about injuries. "He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else." Ben Franklin

I'm excited about Allen Bradford possibly getting more carries.
I would also like to see speedsters Trevon Patterson and Devon Flournoy get a shot. I've seen them at practice in the past do some great things but never get much during the games. I would like to see Ausberry moved to TE. He doesn't separate from the DB. He does ok against LBs but can't get away from the DBs. I would also like to see Moody get some carries as well. He got in a very few games and didn't do much but I question the play calling. Didn't think it fit his style of running game. This all sounds like good news for the Trojans this fall.

Also, I wouldn't be shocked if AB was Top 3 in the conf. in rushing.

I think I would start by blaming it on Norm Chow.

Wow!! that's nice!! i am very excited!! Just can't wait!!! I think no one can replace the duo of Rojo and Butler for this season.. Prater and Woods will be the 2nd stringer.. Allen will be rock solid at tailback while Cj will be a reliable back up.. watch out for the battle of the Trenches! Seantrel is coming to town!! Watch out for Grimble to get some large reps at TE.. this player is a beast.. need to get more speed though.. Baxter will be the most use Freshman this year..

Pete Carroll played too much favoritism and spoke of false competition. The players are now responding to opportunity and are willing to give their all to the team. Kiffin is the right coach at the right time for USC. It will be interesting to see how Carroll respond to USC situation if there is a return to greatness for Troy and the Seahawks continue their incompetence.
The one absolutely awesome thing that Kiffin said is that the players have show what they can do and they will build the offense around it. That is the philosophy of most great coaches because it will maximize our talent and put players in position to excell and make plays. Carroll and his young staff failed to do that last year. I still say that Pete's biggest fault by far was his willingness---desire?---to bring on inexperienced assistants. One thing that really seemed to set us apart in the early days of his tenure was his experienced staff. As that changed, things seemed to get worse. We may have had the worst set of coordinators in the Pac-10 last year and it showed.
Another problem is that Pete had clearly lost his passion by the end. I think he no longer had the "fire" for the job. One thing that typified Pete Carroll's teams was an ability to bounce back from things. Until the end, USC was an amazing second-half team. We might be tied or even behind going into halftime and would come out with guns blazing in the second half. Similarly, if we dropped a game or had a poor showing, we would come out with more fire and intensity in the next one. But none of these things were true in 2009. With the possible exception of the Ohio St. game, we stopped being a strong second-half team. In fact, we actually tended to play worse as the game went on. (See Notre Dame, Oregon, Stanford, Arizona.) And, except for our showing against Cal, there was really no bounce back. Get blown out by Oregon? Follow it up with a disgusting performance against Arizona St. Lose to Arizona and come back with an ugly win against Boston College. I am excited about the new coaching staff because, at least in the short term, both of these problems have been rectified. Obviously, the staff of assistants has all the same kind experience we enjoyed in Pete's early years. And Lane, by virtue of his youth, has the energy and passion to do what needs to be done for USC to be the elastic "bounce back" team it once was. In short, this coaching staff is combining the energy of youth with the wisdom of experience. Add in some unbelievable talent among the recruits, and the results are going to be amazing. |

Actually, that didn't need to be translated. It had already been translated last year, when the translation turned out to be: "5-4."

the only thing that got me was the defensive predictability. play the safety back back back, and allow the middle wide open. we got burned on BIG plays in BIG moments because of that predictability. the stanford 4th down pass down the middle for example was one. no complaints here, we won. and won many times. i would say that the predictability of our alignment and what was going to be open since lofa tatupu til chris gallippo had us seeing the same darn plays from opponents week to week.
