I don't know how they do it now, but back then the Tahoe alums would open their homes for us to stay in. They were always great hosts. Ahhhhhhhhh, the days. The pictures are nice but I have a big question that on one has asked. How in the world do you have these cheerleaders, last weekend, in Lake Tahoe? The elevation is 7000 feet. The average daily temperature the end of March is freezing. The lake is barely a few degrees above freezing. These people are standing around in the water like it's the middle of summer. If I didn't know better I'd think those pictures were taken in the middle of summer and not the end of March.

Maybe it's just me but what am I missing here? You can barely put your pinkie in the water in Newport Beach now, how in the world are they doing that up there?

Went there. It's a nice program. approx 70 band members ... 4 song girls ... Rod Sherman spoke ... 6-7 students received scholarships - and I was very impressed with the student's. Great blend ... male and female ... not all caucasian ... some very impressive qualifications! It's not the school I went to.

Also met TahoeTrojan who was out from Texas... great guy with a very cute daughter in her song girl outfit.

Went there. It's a nice program. approx 70 band members ... 4 song girls ... Rod Sherman spoke ... 6-7 students received scholarships - and I was very impressed with the student's. Great blend ... male and female ... not all caucasian ... some very impressive qualifications! It's not the school I went to.

Also met TahoeTrojan who was out from Texas... great guy with a very cute daughter in her song girl outfit.

that sucks that you didnt post any new pics from the event... this is important for those of us nowhere near tahoe...

The good news is......I have posted some pictures from the event. The bad news is.......the only ones I got of the Song Girls AFTER they hit the water were all fouled up and blurry.

Regardless, it was a great time. Zephyr Cove beach, where the event is held, is one of the busiest and most popular in Tahoe, and when the band fires up, we draw a crowd.

Rod Sherman was a lot of fun to meet. For those of us too young to remember, in 1964, the undefeated and #1 ranked Fighting Irish came into the Coliseum and jumped out to a 17-0 lead before SC came storming back. Rod caught a TD pass from Craig Fertig with 1:33 left to win the game 20-17. He now runs the Flashback Football Camp every summer, and I gave him my word that I would be there next summer, in shape and ready to play. Great guy, and he autographed a photo of the TD catch for me.

As an aside, I knew Craig's daughter Jenny when I was an undergrad. She dated one of my fraternity brothers and lived across the street in the DG house. Tragically, she died a few years ago......she was a really sweet girl and part of a great Trojan legacy.

Anyway, on to the photos......such as they are.

There's a reason they introduce our band as "The Greatest Marching Band in the History of the Universe." We've earned the title.
